花火 (hanabi)
Meaning: sparkler
Sparkler is what we called 花火 (hanabi) that is one of seasonal words on August in Japan.
It symbolizes prosperity in the glittering light, and fragility in the fading light. It reminds me of the phrase "rise and fall."
I guess that hanabi slowly burning out as well as cherry blossoms slowly falling down express Japanese people's aesthetic adoration of ephemerality.
花火は八月の季語。
きらきらとした光は華やかさを、
消えゆく光は儚さを。
栄枯盛衰を感じさせます。
花火がゆっくりと燃え尽きるのも、
桜がゆっくりと散っていくのも、
儚さを愛でる美意識を表しているように思えます。
